At SXSW Confab, Democracy Rules

The next big idea on the Web this election year is reinventing democracy.

At South By Southwest, the annual tech and entertainment festival in Austin, Texas, that begins Friday, much of the agenda is dedicated to dissecting campaigns driven by the Internet, and new start-ups that hope to give a social-media spin to campaigning and lobbying.

After years of debate, the traditional players in government are beginning to accept the Web’s disruptive potential, said Don Tapscott, an author and technology adviser, who will give a keynote on the topic at South By Southwest.
